What is it?
Loving Earth’s Organic Coconut Nectar is a delicious, low GI (35), mineral-rich liquid sweetener tapped from coconut trees on the island of Java in Indonesia. Deep complex tones and an addictively butterscotch flavour define this seductive sweetener. A creamy smooth texture massages the tastebuds while notes of maple syrup linger on the palette with a rich treacly afterglow. Traditional communities throughout the world have long referred to the coconut tree as the ‘Tree of Life’. Producing an average of 50-75% more sugar per acre than sugar cane and using less than 1/5th of the nutrients for that production, it has a well-deserved reputation as the planet’s most sustainable sweetener. Coconut nectar is a sucrose based sweetener and is thus a handy alternative for people with fructose sensitivities.

Health Benefits
Coconut Nectar is naturally low on the Glycemic Index (GI), which has benefits for weight control and improving glucose and lipid levels in people with diabetes (type 1 and type 2). It's rated as GI 35. By comparison, most honeys are GI 55 and sane sugars are GI 68. Coconut Nectar produces slow release energy, which sustains the human body through its daily activities without regular sugar ‘highs’ and ‘lows’. It also has a nutritional content far richer than all other commercially available sweeteners. Coconut Nectar has a high mineral content. It is a rich source of potassium, magnesium, zinc and iron. In addition to this it contains Vitamin B1, B2, B3 and B6. When compared to brown sugar, Coconut Nectar has twice the iron, four times the magnesium and over 10 times the amount of zinc. Coconut Nectar is unfiltered and preservative free.
Growing
Yogyakarta in central Java is the home of the Indonesian villagers who grow and harvest our Coconut Sugar. They use a centuries old technique to provide us with this healthy sweetener, which in turn ensures a steady source of income for their community. Our Coconut Sugar gives these farmers the potential for a better life. This is a unique tradition of the Javanese and they are known to produce the best quality Coconut Sugar. Farmers climb the coconut palms and collect the sugar blossom nectar by gently slicing the flower.
Processing
Coconut Nectar is collected by coconut farmers who climb the trees and collect the blossom nectar by slicing the flower, which allows the nectar to freeflow. Coconut trees produce an average of 50-75% more sugar per acre than sugar cane and use less than 1/5th of the nutrients for that production, leading to coconut sugar's reputation as the most sustainable sweetener in the world. Tropical palms are an ecologically beneficial tree crop that grow in diverse, wildlife supportive agro-ecosystems, restore damaged soils and require very little water. In fact, coconut trees can grow in such severely depleted soil, using so little water, that they require very little maintenance. Not only that, but over time they actually improve soil structure, fertility and water conservation, thereby allowing marginalised land to become lush jungle. This has led many traditional communities throughout the world to consider coconut trees as the “Tree of Life”, as one tree can provide a multitude of usable goods, such as roofing material, food, coconut water, building material and shade for crops. Organic coconut sugar has a high potential for lifting these farmers into a better life while creating a net benefit to their surrounding environment.
